Notation & Technique Key
Learning to play all the different sounds on the hand drum is both fun and challenging. To help you on this journey, we have created an interactive video library, featuring all 24 hand drum, bell and shaker strokes found on this site.

Clicking on this button brings you to our Hand Drum Notation & Technique KEY (see below), featuring our video library! Now click on any symbol (orange font) to see a brief video demonstration of that stroke.
The Hand Drum Notation & Technique KEY also reminds us that underlined strokes are played with the dominant hand and that all the rhythms on the site are either in 4/4 time or 12/8 time.
Each stroke demonstration (left) illustrates how to play the stroke, and includes a brief description.
